Descanso Tract

This is a mostly intact tract of mid-century post and beam homes built by Victor Sease. After Eugene Weston and Doug Byles left the office of Whitney Smith of Smith & Williams Architects, they formed a partnership Byles & Weston. They designed some speculative homes for Victor Sease in 1951 and 1953. Doug Byles was a USC graduate and studied under Calvin Straub. Eugene Weston studied at the Art Center.

Boundaries of Descanso Tract are Apperson: north, Haines Canyon: east, Day: south, Glory: west. The Victor Sease-built houses are concentrated on Haines Canyon and Apperson Street. Although not built by Victor Sease, 10300 Haines Canyon is included here. It is known as the Scott House and was designed by the late, great Pierre Koenig in 1953. The steel Scott house is L shaped with the carport filling the inside of the L. There are no windows open to west side (street side) of the house. The large window to the great room is on the south side of the house. This is one of his earliest steel houses and is a modest 1250 square feet. The Scott family still owns this house.
