Echo Park Animal Alliance

The increasing number of animals in desperate need of rescuing or assistance throughout Echo Park has become a growing concern to many residents. Echo Park is a unique community full of creativity and compassion, and although many caring individuals do what they can to help alleviate the problems stemming from pet over-population, it can be overwhelming. Some of us got to thinking how much more effective our individual efforts might be if we local animal advocates were to pool our energies…

The Echo Park Animal Alliance was founded in September 2000 as a forum for residents of Echo Park, regular users of Elysian Park, rescuers, members of our local humane community, and for anyone concerned with animal welfare and with raising the level of responsible pet ownership within our neighborhood. We encourage you to join us to help support each other's efforts, share information, ideas, and resources. Hopefully, we can start turning things around on a local level.

In just a short time, our group has made a difference! We routinely feed, foster and re-home stray dogs dumped in Elysian Park, raise funds for local animals' medical expenses, offer free pet food and shelter to the neediest members of our community. We share references for local animal services, post pet-friendly housing that comes up in the neighborhood, and perhaps most importantly, use this list as a bulletin board to post notices for lost & found pets. Any local animal-related topics are welcome - please join us!

PET PHOTOS with SANTA at EXP STUDIOS
This is our big, annual fundraiser at Peter Shire's studio.
Everyone has a great time and we raise money to help local animals!

Our 2003 Spring Rummage Sale
was a huge success!
We raised over $800 to help
the animals of Echo Park.
Thank you to everyone who donated
their time or merchandise!
A special thanks to the Macias family, for allowing us the use of the Chicken Corner lot.

LOTUS FESTIVAL 2002
This was our first community booth at the annual Lotus Festival July 13 & 14 at Echo Park Lake, and it was a blast!
We distributed over 70 discount spay/neuter vouchers to L.A. residents, and had lots of humane education literature on-hand. As a fundraiser, EPAA volunteers had baked yummy homemade dog treats - we sold out!
It was really great to meet so many of our neighbors and spread the word about the EPAA and its goals.

Thank you to all our terrific volunteers who baked or helped out at the booth!

Foster Homes Save Lives!

These are just a few of the homeless dogs we have
been able to place into loving, permanent homes.
Without the help of foster guardians,
this wouldn't have been possible.

The Echo Park Animal Alliance is reliant upon a local fostering network to provide
temporary homes for the abandoned animals that we rescue and re-home.
With extremely limited resources, we find ourselves turning away animals in need
because there is a shortage of homes in which to foster them.
If you can care for an animal short or long-term, you can help us save lives!
