Mr. Winkle & Lara Jo Regan
Living on the very glamorous eastside of L.A., one can't help but bump into celebrities everywhere! Here at the Silver Lake Dog Park, I met up with the fabulous Mr. Winkle and his gracious human companion, Lara Jo Regan. For those who've been living under a rock this past year, Mr. Winkle sky-rocketed to fame - launching his own website, calendar, and soon... a Mattel toy! Dana & BoBo
A few years ago, my friend Dana bought a house here in Echo Park. Two days before she was to move in, the real estate agent called to say that the tenants of the house weren't able to take their dog with them, and were planning to dump him at the shelter. Without hesitation, Dana offered to care for BOBO and allow him to stay at the house as long as necessary. Tracy Mynhier of Adopt-A-Chow-L.A. offered to work on finding him a new home, although the difficulties of re-homing an older Chow are many.
Poor BOBO! He had belonged to an elderly woman who could barely care for him, and was then passed on to her heirs, who severely neglected him. His coat was a matted mess, he was underfed and full of worms. We got BOBO all fixed up at the vet and the groomers, and within a few short weeks, with all of this new-found attention and TLC, his ultra-charming Chow persona began to emerge.
By now of course, Dana was smitten, and she asked Tracy to call off all further adoption efforts - BOBO was staying for good! Well, I thought my dogs were spoiled, but let me tell you - BOBO has really hit the jackpot with Dana!
