Hummingbird Heaven
I had little idea when I purchased my house that it had such an interesting history!
The owners had a successful home-based business producing hummingbird feeders that were famous around the world!
The address was known as "Hummingbird Heaven", as you can see from the cool, original letterhead.

The architecture of the house is interesting too. The style is known as Post & Beam. It was a modern and experimental
form of post-war residential home design, and is the quintessential example of mid-century modern architecture.
I was lucky enough to purchase the home from the trustee of the original owners who had lived there for 50 years!
The home was in original condition, ready for my restoration!
In 2006, a few neighbors in similar style homes founded an informal group, calling ourselves Foothill Moderns. The mission of
Foothill Moderns is to promote awareness and appreciation for the mid-century modern (MCM) architecture in this area.
We have already met two of our initial goals; producing an exhibit for our local museum about MCM architecture,
and having a MCM house (mine!) on the annual Sunland-Tujunga Historic Home & Garden Tour.
We have gathered quite a bit of research on the area's MCM homes and their inhabitants.
