COCOA
I have agreed to help a friend of mine find a new home for his dog. He is battling cancer and feels it is time to make other arrangements. The dog has been cooped up in an apartment for quite some time, but loves to play and run. Cocoa has a darling personality and would be good for a family with children. She is a chocolate Lab/Shar Pei mix, 3 1/2 years old, spayed, and current on her shots. Cocoa is 28 inches tall and is about 70 lbs. She does bark on occasion but is very quick to be quiet when told to stop. She is housetrained and uses a doggie-door. Overall she is happy and cheerful, but longing for attention and play time. SPRING STREET KITTIES
These are three brothers of a litter born in an abandoned car in Downtown LA. That is why they are known as the Spring Street Kitties although now we could just call them the Spring kitties. Flaco, Gonzo and Bernie are all ready to go to new homes. They are 8 weeks old, very friendly, and love to snuggle when they are done playing. NELLY
Nelly is a gem! She is a 40 lbs. 6 year-old spayed female Terrier-Shepherd mix (best guess). She is friendly, spunky, and sweet to all, great with other dogs, knows some basic commands and even performs some cute dog tricks. She is healthy, current on her vaccinations and housetrained, and is a dream to walk on leash. Nelly's elderly owner died in mid-October 2007. Her daughter is her caretaker, but she too is elderly, has suffered a stroke, and is partially paralyzed, with use of only one arm. She gets around slowly and requires a cane. Other than her once daily visits to feed Nelly or when our volunteers go to visit and walk her, she receives no other care or attention. Nelly needs a foster or new home ASAP! BROWNIE
Brownie is a 1 year-old male Shepherd mix. He was brought to a local kennel after he was found roaming busy La Tuna Canyon. Through his microchip, we traced him back to his previous owner, who had given him away to a relative... who didn't want him back. Poor Brownie deserves SO much better! Baby is a darling, affectionate Yellow Lab/Shar Pei mix. Her owners fell on hard times and moved away leaving her to fend for herself. Buddy is a 6 month-old male Pitbull. This cute fellow was apparently abandoned in Elysian Park. We found him as we were driving up the street - he wouldn't get out of the way, so we opened the door to move him and he jumped in the car (licking me). We put up posters and took him door-to-door trying to locate his owners. He is super-friendly and sweet, good with our other two dogs. He is extremely energetic and playful! Reina is a south L.A. street dog that was abandoned by her previous owners. They moved to Louisiana and left her to fend for herself. After eluding capture for over a year (and having at least 3 litters of pups), I finally got her, and have been slowly socializing her in order for her to be adopted. Reina has been very slow to trust, but she is starting to change… She will come up to me now and lick my fingers. She wags her tail when she sees me. Maggie was intercepted by her rescuer as as she was being dumped at the North Central shelter because her family was having a baby! She’s a spayed female, about 8 years old, 38 lbs., probably a spaniel/Samoyed mix. She’s sweet and white and fluffy as a marshmallow! She can seem a bit aloof at first, but warms up becoming very affectionate. She’s gentle and gets along with other dogs, but would prefer to be your one and only. Ivy is a Shepherd-Terrier mix that was running around South Central L.A. with two other puppies who soon ran back to their homes. I followed, carrying Ivy in my arms trying to find her owner. When I did, she gave her up to me saying she couldn’t take care of her and wanted her to have a good life. Ivy is good with other dogs and children.
