story coming soon!

Tatiana
This dog was brought to the shelter by the Highway Patrol - she had been found on the busy 110 freeway in a barrel!
We wanted to send you an update on Tatiana. We usually call her Totty or T-bone. She's doing well. She had a few accidents in the beginning, but is adjusting well. We've had to adjust a bit too. She's like a Camel. She drinks two laps of water a day and only has to go out twice a day. She goes in to work with me every day and everyone there loves her. She's a wary of men in hats, but is making progress. Kristen and I went to a wedding this weekend in Placerville and she went with us. Attached is a picture of her (and me) after a day of playing in Lake Tahoe. We'll keep in touch.

Smurfy
This darling, senior Pomeranian mix was on his last day at the shelter when Joy Calisoff adopted him. Matted, emaciated, weak, and suffering from a variety of ailments (mostly caused by neglect), this sweet little guy was placed on an all natural, raw diet and holistic supplements.

...first day at the office

looking and feeling SO much better now
Six months later, he has made a full recovery and, Joy adds, "Look at his beautiful coat! He is so much fun to have around and everyone in the office loves him!!!!"
snuggling with the boss!

Cocoa
I just found your card and have been wanting to give you an update on the blue merle female Australian Shepherd-Border Collie mix I adopted back in November 2001. I named her "Cocoa". She is really a great dog and has a great companion, "Cisco", a Golden Retriever mix. They play all of the time and she is "the boss". Although she likes me a lot, I think she is in LOVE with my husband. But then again, Cisco loves me! I'm so glad we have her. She is our "alarm" but does not bark excessively.
Thanks again for helping me find her.

Sundance & Jessica
All is well with us! She has adjusted wonderfully. Her appetite is HUGE! She has gained much needed weight, although still a petite little thing! She is a great family dog! And very affectionate with us and especially with my 2 year old son. She is still a bit jumpy....but that takes time..Who knows what she's been through in her life. She's definitely a part of our family, and we love her unconditionally, always and forever!
Sincerely, Jessica

Tado
Tado was rescued from the North Central shelter in December 2001.
This gorgeous young Lab-Shepherd mix was getting passed-over by the public, who seemed only interested in *Christmas puppies*. He stood out as an incredibly sweet dog who was continually kissing all the other dogs in his cage, so when his time at the shelter was up and his life became endangered, Joy Calisoff rescued him.
Soon after, he caught the eye of a lovely couple who were looking for a playmate and companion for their recently adopted shelter dog, Lloyd. They all fell in love with Tado and welcomed him into their family. Not long after however, it became apparent that there was something wrong with Tado's hips. As he grew, his hind quarters stayed small and weak. Soon even the slightest physical activity seemed to fatigue him and cause pain.
A specialist confirmed the worst ~ Tado was born with no hip sockets ~ nothing was holding his leg bones in place! Surgery was deemed necessary to create artificial sockets. Luckily, the prognosis is very good - after recovering from a successful procedure, Tado should be able to play just like other young dogs!
"Tado's going in next week. One hip will get operated on Tuesday and the second one will be operated on Thursday. DARthroplasty is a procedure which takes bone shavings from Tado's own hip and uses it to form a type of hip socket. Dr. Olds thought this was the best procedure for Tado at his age and with his problem.
3-26-02: Tado came home last night (Thursday). We visited him on Wednesday at the vet. He could walk a bit but he seemed so sad. So when it came time for the second operation yesterday, Dr. Olds decided to wait until next Tuesday to give Tado a little more healing and recuperation time. So, we have him back at home for a few days for love and nursing :) He's doing a little better today. Seems to be happier back at home. And he's got a lovely haircut... I suppose every dog aspires to have the trimmings of a poodle at some time in their life! Lucky dog...we keep telling him how lucky he is to have this new look, but he doesn't seem to agree... Oh well, someday he'll understand :)
4-5-02: Tado’s in surgery for his second hip as we speak... Dr. Olds decided not to operate on it last Thursday cause Tado was a little too sensitive at the time... So he came home for some major TLC. He was already favoring his new hip over the other one by Friday... So good news so far...
4-11-02: Well, Tado got his stitches out today and Dr. Olds said he looks great!
4-17-02: Tado’s doing excellently! He’s ecstatic, actually. He just can’t seem to get over the fact that he feels GOOD now... What a cutie pie! He teases and taunts Lloyd to play more than Lloyd taunts him! He (Tado) wants to play almost all the time, and it’s so hard to keep them apart while he fully heals. Dr. Olds said we have to wait 3 more weeks until they can rough house play...(a seeming eternity)... So, Tado’s running and “prancing” and holding his head and tail up high...he’s so proud :) And all of us (Lloyd too) are so much happier now that he feels better and is so happy himself. He’s not really grumpy anymore and a lot more loving, which makes sense now that most of the pain is gone.

4-22-02: Tado’s definitely had a lot of energy lately. Just a few minutes ago, he knocked one of the small door gates down to get closer to dogs outside of our fence... Yes, little Tado did that! :) He is our Protector though... and Lloyd’s definitely our Jester. What a couple of goof balls...we love them so much...

Bella
Just wanted to let you know that it was because of YOU that we have our precious little angel with us!! We had been visiting many foundations for over a month, looking for "our dog" when i came across "BELLA's" picture on your website. i knew instantly that she was our dog. i even saved the picture on my computer and labeled it "my dog" before i even called about her(the first picture)... she was a stray, and was labeled a corgi-x, 3 years old... i called the north central animal shelter when she became available to find out any info i could, but no one knew anything. the next day, she was rescued by the ROVER RESCUE. so i called them immediately and they told me that she was in surgery at that moment, getting spayed. they would bring her to their adoption only if i was going to go b/c she had a kennel cough, too... two days later, i went to their adoption, saw her, and there was no question about it. she was IT!! we took a big chance on her b/c no one knew anything about her disposition, or where she came from. but she has been nothing but amazing. she was housebroken in one day, has NEVER gotten into anything, and just follows us around like a shadow! she is extremely smart, too!!! EVERYWHERE we go, people stop to ask us what kind of dog she is. we tell them we think she is a corgi/retriever mix, is about a year and a half, and are proud to tell them that we found her at the pound. no one can believe that such a doll could be in the pound! we are hoping that when people hear that, they will be more willing to rescue dogs!
thank you soooo much!!!
